iPlayArabic

iPlayArabic is an innovative mobile app designed to teach children Arabic literacy in an engaging and interactive way. iPlayArabic combines engaging game-based activities with interactive features, providing a comprehensive and enjoyable learning experience. This case study focuses on the user experience design process, detailing how I designed an Arabic literacy teaching app tailored to the needs of children. Through user research, design iterations, and usability testing, I was able to create a product that is both intuitive and engaging for young learners.

My role

As the UI/UX designer on the iPlayArabic project, I was primarily responsible for designing an intuitive and engaging user experience for the app. My tasks included conducting user research, creating wireframes and mockups, and developing design prototypes. I also collaborated closely with the other members of the team to ensure that the user experience was tailored to the needs of the target audience. To ensure that the design was successful, I conducted regular usability tests with children to assess the effectiveness of the design elements. Ultimately, I was able to create a product that was both enjoyable and educational for young learners.

Color selection process

I took special care when selecting colors for the iPlayArabic app. Knowing that children are the primary users, I wanted to use bright and cheerful colors that would create a positive learning environment and draw their attention. I chose to focus primarily on primary colors such as red, blue, yellow, and green, as these are the colors that are most visible and recognizable to young learners. I also opted for lighter shades of these colors, as brighter shades can be too overwhelming for children. Throughout the design process, I experimented with different color combinations to ensure that the colors were both aesthetically pleasing and legible. Finally, I conducted usability tests with children to ensure that the colors were engaging and appropriate for the target audience.

Problems

I conducted user research and usability tests to detect problems with the old version of iPlayArabic. I interviewed users, conducted surveys and focus groups, and observed users interacting with the app to identify areas where it was lacking. I also conducted usability tests to gather feedback from users and pinpoint any potential usability issues. This feedback was then used to create a list of problems that needed to be addressed in the new version of the app. My goal was to create a comprehensive list of problems so that we could create an improved user experience for the new version of the app.

1. The current app lacks engaging and interactive features to keep children engaged and motivated.
2. The current app does not provide a comprehensive learning experience, as it focuses solely on rote memorization and repetition.
3. The current app does not have adequate visual aids or audio feedback to help children understand difficult concepts.
4. The current app does not provide enough guidance and feedback to help children develop their skills.
