Overview

Creating something from scratch, especially a community-driven project, always has its quirks. For 82Berlin Stand-up – Europe's Turkish Comedy Club, the goal was simple but ambitious: build a central online home for Berlin's burgeoning Turkish stand-up scene. This wasn't just about listing shows; it was about giving a voice and a stage to a vibrant community of immigrant comedians, and making it easy for their audience to connect. I took on the task of designing and developing the platform that would bring this vision to life.

The Challenge

Before the website, coordinating and promoting shows for a new, energetic group of Turkish comedians in Berlin was, well, a bit chaotic. Information was scattered, ticket sales were fragmented, and there wasn't a single, authoritative place where people could really grasp what 82Berlin Stand-up was all about. How do you clearly communicate the unique vibe of immigrant comedians telling their stories? How do you make it super easy for someone to find a show, buy a ticket, and feel like they're part of something new? And for aspiring comics, how do they even know where to sign up for an open mic? The core challenge was centralizing all of this in a way that felt professional, accessible, and authentically 82Berlin.

The Solution

My approach was pretty straightforward: build a platform that serves as both a dynamic event hub and a welcoming community space.

First, I focused on a clean, intuitive show listing system. The idea was to make finding and booking tickets as painless as possible. If someone's spending their evening looking for a laugh, the last thing they need is a complicated website. Each show gets its own clear details – what it is, where it is, when it is, and a direct link to buy tickets.

Then, it was crucial to tell the "Our Story". This wasn't just about a comedy club; it was about a new community born from immigrant voices – writers, influencers, podcasters, all converging to create something unique in Berlin. So, I carved out space to share that narrative, along with introducing key figures like our founder, Dilara Ekinci.

Beyond events, the site also needed to foster connection. I integrated a section for "Uygunlar," our podcast series, letting people dive deeper into the comedians' world. And for those budding comedians out there, a clear "I Want to Go on Stage!" section provides an easy pathway to participate in open mics.

Finally, standard stuff, but essential: robust contact information and social media links to ensure easy communication and broader reach. The whole thing was built with responsiveness in mind, ensuring it looks good whether you’re on a desktop at home or squinting at your phone on the U-Bahn.

The Impact

The 82Berlin Stand-up website has truly become the digital backbone of the club. What started as scattered efforts now has a centralized, professional home.

Now, audiences can effortlessly browse upcoming shows, purchase tickets with ease, and instantly get a sense of the club's unique identity. Aspiring comedians have a clear pathway to join the stage, and the "Uygunlar" podcast gains visibility. The result? Increased show attendance, a more engaged community, and a solidified online presence that accurately reflects the vibrant, inclusive spirit of 82Berlin Stand-up. It's a platform that not only manages events but actively builds and strengthens a community around shared laughter.
